Abstract
The present invention provides a method for sulfurizing a phosphorus-containing compound, such as a trivalent phosphorus compound, using a disulfide-containing five-membered heterocycle.
Claims27
A method of sulfurizing a phosphorus-containing compound, comprising contacting the phosphorus-containing compound with a compound of the formula (Formula I):
- ##STR16## or a compound of the formula (Formula II):
- ##STR17## wherein:
- (a) Y.dbd.R.sup.2, OR.sup.3, NR.sup.16 R.sup.17, or SR.sup.18 ;
- (b) each R.sup.1, R.sup.16, and R.sup.17 is independently H or an organic group;
- and
- (c) each R.sup.2, R.sup.3, and R.sup.18 is independently an organic group.

A method of sulfurizing a trivalent phosphorus compound of the formula (Formula III):
- ##STR21## wherein X, W, and Z are organic groups, comprising contacting the compound of Formula III with a compound of the formula (Formula I):
- ##STR22## or a compound of the formula (Formula II):
- ##STR23## wherein:
- (a) Y.dbd.R.sup.2, OR.sup.3, NR.sup.16 R.sup.17, or SR.sup.18 ;
- (b) each R.sup.1, R.sup.16, and R.sup.17 is independently H or an organic group having 1-carbon atoms;
- and
- (c) each R.sup.2, R.sup.3, and R.sup.18 is independently an organic group having 1-carbon atoms.
