Abstract
Compositions of a purine, a xanthine oxidase inhibitor and/or a dihydrofolate reductase inhibitor, and methods of using same, for controlling the growth of pest insects which salvage, store, or excrete their nitrogenous wastes via the purine metabolic pathway.
Claims30
A composition for controlling an insect pest which salvages, stores, or excretes its nitrogenous wastes via the purine metabolic pathway, comprising a purine selected from the group consisting of xanthine, hypoxanthine, guanine, and mixtures thereof, in an amount of about 1.0%, by weight, and a dihydrofolate reductase inhibitor selected from the group consisting of trimethoprim, methotrexate, and mixtures thereof, in an amount of about 0.1% to about 6.0%, by weight.
A method of controlling an insect pest which salvages, stores, or excretes its nitrogenous wastes via the purine metabolic pathway, which comprises bringing into contact with said pest, a growth-controlling amount of a composition comprising a purine selected from the group consisting of xanthine, hypoxanthine, guanine, and mixtures thereof, in an amount of about 1.0%, by weight, and a dihydrofolate reductase inhibitor selected from the group consisting of trimethoprim, methotrexate, and mixtures thereof, in an amount of about 0.1% to about 6.0%, by weight.
