Abstract
Methods and compositions are provided for alleviation of disease states involving plaque formation, such as are manifested in Alzheimer's Disease and other amyloid disorders, and arteriosclerotic disease. Methods for the treatment of herpes virus infections by administration of thimerosal are further provided by the invention.

A method for alleviating the symptoms of disease states associated with amyloid plaque formation comprising administering to a patient in need there of a composition comprising an effective amount of an amyloid protein or a therapeutically active fragment thereof.
A method for treating a disease state associated with atherosclerosis comprising administering to a patient in need thereof a composition comprising an effective amount of an amyloid protein or therapeutically active fragment thereof.
