An oral composition comprising an orally acceptable mouthrinse, toothpaste, gel dentifrice, chewing gum or lozenge vehicle and an effective antiplaque amount of at least about 0.003% by weight of at least one substantially water insoluble noncationic adamantyl phenol antibacterial agent of the formulae:
