Abstract
A raw material prepared by washing a phosphor powder containing a phosphor host material and an activator with an acid solution, followed by drying the washed powder, is heated within a thermal plasma at a temperature which permits partially melting the phosphor, followed by cooling and subsequently subjecting the resultant phosphor at 1200.degree. to 1700.degree. C., thereby manufacturing spherical phosphor particles having a concentration gradient in a radial direction.
Claims9
A method of manufacturing a phosphor comprising the steps of:
- heating a raw material consisting of a phosphor powder containing a phosphor host material and an activator within a thermal plasma at a temperature which permits partially evaporating a component of the raw material, followed by cooling to obtain spherical phosphor particles;
- and
- subjecting the resultant spherical phosphor particles to a heat treatment at 1300.degree. to 1600.degree. C.
A method of manufacturing a phosphor comprising the steps of:
- heating a raw material consisting of a phosphor powder containing a phosphor host material and an activator within a thermal plasma at a temperature which permits partially evaporating a component of the raw material, followed by cooling to obtain spherical phosphor particles;
- and
- mixing fine particles of an oxide of a component of the phosphor host material with the resultant spherical phosphor particles, followed by subjecting the resultant mixture to a heat treatment at 1200.degree. to 1700.degree. C.
