Abstract
A catheter, including: (a) an element for transferring a magnetic force; (b) an adjustable ring attached to the element such that at least a portion of the element is substantially within the adjustable ring, the adjustable ring having at least a first diameter and at least a second diameter, and the adjustable ring being magnetizable; and (c) a magnetization unit located near a portion of the element, the magnetization unit regulating the magnetic force transferred by the element for determining when the adjustable ring has the first diameter and when the adjustable ring has the second diameter.
Claims31
A catheter, comprising:
- (a) an element for transferring a magnetic force;
- (b) at least one adjustable ring attached to said element such that at least a portion of said element is substantially within said at least one adjustable ring, said at least one adjustable ring being substantially continuous and said at least one adjustable ring featuring an inner surface, said at least one adjustable ring being alternately dilatable and collapsible in a substantially continuous manner, such that a distance between said inner surface of said at least one adjustable ring and said element is substantially continuously alterable within a range defined between a maximum distance, wherein said at least one adjustable ring is fully dilated, and a minimum distance, wherein said at least one adjustable ring is fully collapsed, said at least one adjustable ring being magnetizable, such that said distance between said inner surface of said at least one adjustable ring and said element is determined according to an amount of said magnetic force transferred by said element, and said at least one adjustable ring being capable of forming a fluid passageway;
- and
- (c) a magnetization unit being connected to said element, said magnetization unit being located near a portion of said at least one adjustable ring, said magnetization unit determining said amount of said magnetic force transferred by said element.
A method of assembling a catheter, comprising the steps of:
- (a) preparing an adjustable ring from flexible and magnetizable material;
- (b) attaching said adjustable ring to an element for transferring a magnetic force, such that at least a portion of said element is substantially within said at least one adjustable ring, said at least one adjustable ring being substantially continuous and said at least one adjustable ring featuring an inner surface, said at least one adjustable ring being alternately dilatable and collapsible in a substantially continuous manner, such that a distance between said inner surface of said at least one adjustable ring and said element is substantially continuously alterable within a range defined between a maximum distance, wherein said at least one adjustable ring is fully dilated, and a minimum distance, wherein said at least one adjustable ring is fully collapsed, said at least one adjustable ring being magnetizable, such that said distance between said inner surface of said at least one adjustable ring and said element is determined according to an amount of said magnetic force transferred by said element, and said at least one adjustable ring being capable of forming a fluid passageway;
- and
- (c) placing a magnetization unit near said element, such that said magnetization unit determines said amount of said magnetic force being transferred by said element.
A repair catheter for repairing a wall of a biological duct, comprising:
- (a) an element for transferring a magnetic force;
- (b) a stent, at least a portion of said element being substantially within said stent, said stent being substantially continuous and said stent featuring an inner surface, said stent being alternately collapsible and dilatable in a substantially continuous manner, such that a distance between said inner surface of said stent and said element is substantially continuously alterable within a range defined between a maximum distance, wherein said stent is fully dilated, and a minimum distance, wherein said stent is fully collapsed, said stent being magnetizable, such that said distance between said inner surface of said stent and said element is determined according to an amount of said magnetic force transferred by said element, and said stent being capable of forming a fluid passageway, said stent being magnetizable and said stent containing activatable adhesive;
- and
- (c) a magnetization unit located near a portion of said element, said magnetization unit regulating said amount of said magnetic force transferred by said element for determining said distance between said inner surface of said stent and said element, said activatable adhesive being activated when said distance is at a desired distance such that said stent becomes substantially rigid.
A suction catheter for removing a deposit from a biological duct, the biological duct having a wall, the suction catheter comprising:
- (a) a suction element for transferring the magnetic force, at least a portion of said element being substantially hollow;
- (b) an adjustable ring attached to said element such that at least a portion of said element is substantially within said adjustable ring, said adjustable ring featuring an inner surface, said adjustable ring being alternately collapsible and dilatable in a substantially continuous manner, such that a distance between said inner surface of said adjustable ring and said element is substantially continuously alterable within a range defined between a maximum distance, wherein said adjustable ring is fully dilated, and a minimum distance, wherein said adjustable ring is fully collapsed, said adjustable ring being magnetizable, such that said distance between said inner surface of said adjustable ring and said element is determined according to an amount of said magnetic force transferred by said element;
- (c) a magnetization unit located near a portion of said element, said magnetization unit regulating said amount of said magnetic force transferred by said element for determining said distance between said inner surface of said adjustable ring and said element such that said adjustable ring is capable of repeatedly contacting the wall of the biological duct;
- and
- (d) a suction device attached to a portion of said element, said suction device exerting a vacuum force to remove the deposit from the biological duct when said adjustable ring contacts the wall of the biological duct.
