Abstract
Novel (1,2-benzisothiazol-3(2H)-ylidene 1,1-dioxide)acetate-terminated polymer charge-control agents are disclosed. They have the general structure (I): ##STR1## n can be as high as the number of hydroxyl groups in the polymer from which structure I is derived.

A (1,2-benzisothiazol-3(2H)-ylidene 1,1-dioxide)acetate-terminated polymer charge-control agent having the general structure (I):
- ##STR12## wherein n can be as high as the number of hydroxyl groups in the polymer from which structure I is derived.
A method of making (1,2-benzisothiazol-3(2H)-ylidene 1,1-dioxide)acetate-terminated polymers by a two step procedure comprising the steps of
- condensing 3-chloro-1,2-benzisothiazole 1,1-dioxide with 2,2-dimethyl-1,3-dioxane-4,6-dione in methylene chloride in the presence of triethylamine acid acceptor to produce 5-(1,2-benzisothiazol-3(2H)-ylidene 1,1-dioxide)-2,2-dimethyl-1,3-dioxane-4,6-dione;
- and
- heating 5-(1,2-benzisothiazol-3(2H)-ylidene 1,1-dioxide)-2,2-dimethyl-1,3-dioxane-4,6-dione with a hydroxy-terminated polymer in an inert solvent.
