Abstract
Carriers comprising silica-based glass providing for the controlled release of biologically active molecules, their methods of preparation, and methods of use are disclosed. The carriers are prepared using a sol-gel-derived process. Biologically active molecules are incorporated within the matrix of the glass during production.
Claims21
A method for delivering biological molecules to a bony defect without burst effect comprising implanting a controlled-release carrier comprising silica-based glass having a porous matrix and biologically active molecules incorporated throughout said matrix of said glass into said defect.
A method for sustained delivery of an antibiotic in situ without burst effect comprising contacting a controlled-release carrier comprising silica-based glass having a porous matrix and at least one antibiotic incorporated throughout said matrix of said glass with a sample.
