Claims8
A lithium hair relaxer composition comprising the soluble lithium reaction product formed by reacting, in an aqueous medium, a lithium salt and an alkaline earth metal hydroxide, wherein the lithium salt is in molar excess to the alkaline earth metal hydroxide and wherein the lithium salt is selected from the group consisting of lithium carbonate, lithium sulfate, and lithium phosphate, and the alkaline earth metal hydroxide is selected from the group consisting of calcium hydroxide, barium hydroxide, and strontium hydroxide, wherein the soluble lithium reaction product is present in at least an amount sufficient to relax hair.
A hair straightening composition comprising the soluble lithium reaction product formed by reacting, in an aqueous phase of an oil-in-water emulsion, a lithium salt and an alkaline earth metal hydroxide, wherein the lithium salt is in molar excess to the alkaline earth metal hydroxide and wherein the lithium salt is selected from the group consisting of lithium carbonate, lithium sulfate, and lithium phosphate, and the alkaline earth metal hydroxide is selected from the group consisting of calcium hydroxide, barium hydroxide, and strontium hydroxide, wherein the soluble lithium reaction product is present in at least an amount sufficient to straighten hair.
