Abstract
A photocatalyst composition containing a substantially non-oxidizable binder which allows large amounts of photocatalytic particles to be adhered to a surface. Upon application to a surface, the composition dries or cures to form an adherent, abrasion-resistant, thermostable, and photocatalytic coating.
Claims24
A process for removing organic compounds from a fluid, the process comprising:
- contacting a photocatalytic surface with a fluid containing an organic compound to be removed, the photocatalytic surface being responsive to incident light and comprising particles of a photocatalyst dispersed in a binder, the particles having a diameter of 50 nm or less, the binder having an oxidizable carbon content of less than 15%;
- and
- exposing the contacted photocatalytic surface to incident light for a period of time sufficient to degrade at least a portion of the organic compound.
A process for removing organic compounds from a fluid, the process comprising:
- contacting a photocatalytic surface with a fluid containing an organic compound to be removed, the photocatalytic surface being responsive to incident light and comprising particles of a photocatalyst dispersed in a binder, the particles having a diameter of 50 nm or less, the binder having a backbone wherein less than one in six atoms of the backbone is oxidizable carbon;
- and
- exposing the contacted photocatalytic surface to incident light for a period of time sufficient to degrade at least a portion of the organic compound.
A process for removing organic compounds from a fluid, the process comprising:
- contacting a photocatalytic surface with a fluid containing an organic compound to be removed, the photocatalytic surface being responsive to incident light and comprising particles of a photocatalyst dispersed in a binder, the particles having a diameter of 50 nm or less, the binder having an oxidizable carbon content of less than 10% after curing for six months;
- and
- exposing the contacted photocatalytic surface to incident light for a period of time sufficient to degrade at least a portion of the organic compound.
