Transceiver apparatus employing wideband FFT channelizer and inverse FFT combiner for a multichannel communication network

A transmitter apparatus for a wireless communication network that employs a multiplicity of different-frequency wireless communication channels for supporting communications among a plurality of geographically distributed first sites by way of one or more transceiver sites, said transmitter apparatus being installable at least at one said transceiver site and comprising:

• A) transmitter processor circuitry for receiving and so processing a plurality of transmitter input signals as to generate respective transmitter digital channel signals representing respective sequences of transmitter input values;
• B) a combiner unit comprising:
• i) a transmitter Fourier-transform processor that receives the transmitter digital channel signals, and generates therefrom an ensemble of combiner polyphase-filter input signals by computing a sequence of discrete Fourier transforms of a sequence of ensembles of the transmitter input values;
• and
• ii) a plurality of combiner polyphase filters that receive respective ones of the combiner polyphase-filter input signals and in real time generate therefrom respective combiner polyphase-filter output signals, representing respective sequences of combiner polyphase-filter output values, that together constitute a combiner output signal that represents combiner output values that equal the combiner polyphase-filter output values of cyclically selected ones of the combiner polyphase filters;
• and
• C) a transmitter unit operative to transmit signals into a plurality of the wireless communication channels simultaneously by generating a wireless composite signal in accordance with the combiner output signal.

A transceiver apparatus for a wireless communication network that employs a multiplicity of different-frequency communication channels for supporting real-time communications among a plurality of geographically distributed first sites by way of one or more transceiver sites, said transceiver apparatus being installable at least at one said transceiver site and comprising:

• A) a receiver unit operative to receive a plurality of receiver signals from respective, different-frequency wireless communication channels and generate a digital composite receiver signal representative of the signals received from said plurality of communication channels;
• B) a channelizer unit comprising:
• i) channelizer polyphase filters that together receive the digital composite receiver signal and generate therefrom respective channelizer polyphase-filter output signals representing respective sequences of polyphase-filter output values;
• and
• ii) a receiver Fourier-transform processor that receives the channelizer polyphase-filter output signals and in real time generates receiver digital channel signals representative of the contents of respective ones of the receiver signals by computing discrete Fourier transforms of ensembles of channelizer polyphase-filter output values;
• C) receiver processor circuitry for so processing the receiver digital channel signals as to generate therefrom respective processed receiver channel signals;
• D) transmitter processor circuitry for receiving and so processing a plurality of transmitter input signals as to generate respective transmitter digital channel signals representing respective sequences of transmitter input values;
• E) a combiner unit comprising:
• i) a transmitter Fourier-transform processor that receives the transmitter digital channel signals, and generates therefrom an ensemble of combiner polyphase-filter input signals by computing a sequence of discrete Fourier transforms of a sequence of ensembles of the transmitter input values;
• and
• ii) a plurality of combiner polyphase filters that receive respective ones of the combiner polyphase-filter input signals and in real time generate therefrom respective combiner polyphase-filter output signals, representing respective sequences of combiner polyphase-filter output values, that together constitute a combiner output signal that represents combiner output values that equal the combiner polyphase-filter output values of cyclically selected ones of the combiner polyphase filters;
• and
• F) a transmitter unit operative to transmit signals into a plurality of the wireless communication channels simultaneously by generating a wireless composite signal in accordance with the combiner output signal.

A transceiver apparatus for a wireless communication network containing multiple frequency communication channels for supporting real time communications among a plurality of geographically distributed first sites, by way of one or more transceiver sites, said transceiver apparatus being installable at a respective one of said one or more transceiver sites and comprising:

• a receiver unit which is operative to receive a plurality of signals from a contiguous set of said multiple frequency communication channels and output a digital composite receiver signal representative of the signals received from said plurality of multiple frequency communication channels;
• a Fourier transform based channelizer unit comprising a polyphase filter which receives the digital composite receiver signal and provides an output signal to an N-point fast Fourier transform based processor which outputs, in real time, respective digital channel signals representative of the contents of respective ones of the signals received from the plurality of communication channels received by said receiver unit;
• a first plurality of signal processor units, respectively associated with said digital channel signals output by said Fourier transform based channelizer unit and being operative to process respective ones of said digital channel signals and to supply processed ones of said digital channel signals at respective output ports thereof;
• a second plurality of signal processor units, respectively associated with respective ones of a plurality of incoming communication signals to be transmitted over a respectively different contiguous set of multiple frequency communication channels of said network, and being operative to process respective ones of said plurality of incoming communication signals and to supply processed ones of said incoming communication signals at respective output ports thereof;
• a Fourier transform-based combiner unit which is coupled to receive said processed ones of said communication signals processed by said second plurality of digital signal processor units and to output, in real time, a digital combined transmit signal representative of the contents of the incoming communication signals processed by said second plurality of digital signal processor units;
• and
• a transmitter unit which is operative to transmit a multiple frequency communication channel signal in accordance with the digital combined transmit signal output by said Fourier transform-based combiner unit.

A transceiver apparatus for a wireless communication network containing multiple frequency communication channels for supporting real time communications among a plurality of geographically distributed first sites, by way of one or more transceiver sites, said transceiver apparatus being installable at a respective one of said one or more transceiver sites and comprising:

• a receiver unit which is operative to receive a plurality of signals from a contiguous set of said multiple frequency communication channels and output a digital composite receiver signal representative of the signals received from said plurality of multiple frequency communication channels;
• a Fourier transform based channelizer unit which receives said digital composite receiver signal and outputs, in real time, respective digital channel signals representative of the contents of respective ones of the signals received from the plurality of communication channels received by said receiver unit;
• a first plurality of signal processor units, respectively associated with said digital channel signals output by said Fourier transform based channelizer unit and being operative to process respective ones of said digital channel signals and to supply processed ones of said digital channel signals at respective output ports thereof;
• a second plurality of signal processor units, respectively associated with respective ones of a plurality of incoming communication signals to be transmitted over a respectively different contiguous set of multiple frequency communication channels of said network, and being operative to process respective ones of said plurality of incoming communication signals and to supply processed ones of said incoming communication signals at respective output ports thereof;
• a Fourier transform-based combiner unit comprising an N-point fast Fourier transform processor which receives said processed ones of said incoming communication signals, and provides transform output signals to a polyphase filter which outputs, in real time, a digital combined transmit signal representative of the contents of the incoming communication signals processed by said second plurality of digital signal processor units;
• and
• a transmitter unit which is operative to transmit a multiple frequency communication channel signal in accordance with the digital combined transmit signal output by said Fourier transform-based combiner unit.
