An ink jet cartridge has a recording head with a substrate, a head portion with a discharge port surface on the substrate, a discharge port provided on the discharge port surface, and an ink tank, the substrate having a leading end line. The ink tank has a substantially rectangular parallelopipedal shape and can contain ink. The ink tank includes a front surface, side surface, and opposing surface opposed to the side surface, the recording head is disposed on the side surface of the ink tank, and the opposing surface has a front end line. Plural positioning portions are provided on and project from the substrate of the head and part of the ink tank. The positioning portions project only within a space enclosed by a plane, the front surface of the ink tank, and the substrate. The leading end line of the substrate of the recording head and the front end line of the surface opposed to the side surface of the ink tank on which the recording head is disposed lie in the plane.

1. Field of the Invention
This invention relates to an ink jet recording apparatus to be employed for copying device, facsimile, word processor, video output printer, output printer of computer, etc., particularly to a constitution for mounting an ink jet cartridge having a recording head and an ink tank for containing ink freely detachably onto the carriage as the recording cartridge mounting means.
2. Related Background Art
FIG. 1, comprising FIGS. 1A and 1B, is a schematic side view showing a prior art example of the mounting actuation of a c ridge.
FIG. 2A is a schematic side view showing an example of the mounting actuation of a recording head of a cartridge.
FIG. 2B is a schematic side view showing an example of the mounting actuation of a recording head of a cartridge.
The present invention is described below by referring to a plurality of embodiments, but the present invention is not limited by these but includes many modified embodiments, provided that the object of the present invention can be accomplished.
As used in this specification, the term "ink jet cartridge" refers to a combination of an ink jet recording head and an ink tank. The term "recording head which can be replaceable" refers to the recording head which is used in such an ink jet cartridge, and the term "ink tank which can be replaceable" refers to the ink tank which is used in such an ink jet cartridge. For simplicity, the terms "cartridge", "recording head" and "ink tank" may be used alone. The term "cartridge" is always meant to refer to the combination of the recording head and ink tank, rather than either of those components alone."
The present invention is a constitution which can perform positioning of the cartridge having the recording head and the carriage with good precision, and with such constitution, accurate positioning of the ink discharge port, and accurate positioning capable of joining pads as unit elements of electrical connecting terminals while rubbing with each other, one to one, can be done.
