Abstract
A novel process for preparing narcotic analgesics such as hydrocodone and hydromorphone using catalytic amounts of homogeneous organometallic complexes is disclosed.
Claims10
A process for preparing a compound of formula (I) ##STR5## wherein R.sup.1 is hydrogen, methyl or a phenol or alcohol protecting group;
- R.sup.2 is hydrogen, methyl, allyl, cyclobutylmethyl, benzyl, trialkylsilyl or an amine protecting group;
- R.sup.3 is hydrogen, hydroxyl or an amino group;
- comprising reacting a compound of formula (II) ##STR6## wherein R.sup.1, R.sup.2 and R.sup.3 are as hereinbefore defined with an organometallic complex of formula (III) ##STR7## wherein M is a metal;
- each Ar is an aryl group;
- n is from 2 to 5, and X is BF.sub.4.sup.- or ClO.sub.4.sup.- and solv is methanol methylene chloride/methanol, tetrahydrofuran, acetone or ethanol.
