Abstract
An adapter plate having a central portion attached to a shoe body includes a depending peripheral sidewall forming a recessed cavity with the central portion which detachably receives a complimentary shaped attachment plate forming a part of an interchangeable attachment. A plurality of different attachments, each having a distinct use, may be interchangeably mounted in the adapter plate. The adapter plate is fixedly connected to the sole of the shoe body or integrally molded as a unitary part of the shoe body to the sole of the shoe body. Fasteners mounted on one of the adapter plate and the attachment releasably engage the other of the adapter plate and the attachment plate for releasably mounting one of the attachments to the shoe body.

A skate comprising:
- a shoe body having a peripheral sole edge;
- an adapter carried on the shoe body, the adapter having a central portion and a peripheral sidewall depending from the central portion, the peripheral sidewall extending substantially in registry with at least a portion of the peripheral sole edge;
- an attachment releasably mountable in the adapter in registry with the central portion and the depending sidewall of the adapter;
- and
- means for releasably connecting the attachment to the adapter in a non-movable, fixed connection.
A skate comprising:
- a shoe body;
- an adapter carried on the shoe body, the adapter having a central portion and a peripheral sidewall depending from the central portion.
- an attachment releasably mountable in the adapter in registry with the central portion and the depending sidewall of the adapter;
- means for releasably connecting the attachment to the adapter in a non-movable, fixed connection, the releasably connecting means including:
- at least one fastener mounted on and extendable through the attachment, the at least one fastener including a shaft having first and second threaded ends;
- and
- a frustoconical surface formed on the shaft intermediate the first and second ends;
- means, mounted on the attachment, for mounting the fastener to the attachment;
- and
- fastener receiving means, mounted on the adapter, for receiving the fastener to attach the attachment to the adapter.
A skate comprising:
- a shoe body;
- an adapter carried on the shoe body, the adapter having a central portion and a peripheral sidewall depending from the central portion;
- an attachment releasably mountable in the adapter in registry with the central portion and the depending sidewall of the adapter;
- means for releasably connecting the attachment to the adapter in a non-movable, fixed connection, the releasably connecting means including;
- at least one fastener mounted on and extendable through the attachment;
- and
- fastener receiving means, mounted on the adapter, for receiving the fastener to attach the attachment to the adapter, the fastener receiving means including:
- a rigid member disposed adjacent to the adapter;
- an aperture formed in the rigid member;
- and
- a fastener receiving member mounted on the rigid member and having an internally threaded bore coaxially aligned with the aperture in the rigid member;
- and
- means, mounted on the adapter, for engaging a toe edge of the Plate of the attachment when the attachment is mounted in the adapter, the engaging means integrally formed as a one piece extension of the rigid member.
A skate comprising:
- a shoe body;
- an adapter carried on the shoe body, the adapter having a central portion and a peripheral sidewall depending from the central portion;
- an attachment releasably mountable in the adapter in registry with the central portion and the depending sidewall of the adapter;
- means for releasably connecting the attachment to the adapter in a non-movable, fixed connection, the releasably connecting means including;
- at least one fastener mounted on and extendable through the attachment;
- and
- fastener receiving means, mounted on the adapter, for receiving the fastener to attach the attachment to the adapter, the fastener receiving means including:
- a rigid member disposed adjacent to the adapter;
- an aperture formed in the rigid member;
- and
- a fastener receiving member mounted on the rigid member and having an internally threaded bore coaxially aligned with the aperture in the rigid member;
- and
- means, mounted on the adapter, for engaging a toe edge of the plate of the attachment when the attachment is mounted in the adapter, the engaging means including a cup-shaped member having an open end for receiving the toe edge of the plate of the attachment and a closed wall extending from the adapter.
A skate comprising:
- a shoe body;
- a sole fixedly connected to the shoe body and having a peripheral edge, the sole having an adapter with a central portion and a peripheral sidewall depending from the central portion, the peripheral sidewall extending substantially in registry with at least a portion of the peripheral edge of the sole;
- an attachment releasably mountable in the adapter on the sole in registry with the central portion and the depending sidewall of the adapter on the sole;
- and
- means for releasably connecting the attachment to the adapter on the sole in a non-movable, fixed connection.
