Abstract
A method and compositions for reducing post-surgical adhesion formation/reformation in mammals following surgical injury to a body cavity or organs situated therein. The aqueous compositions comprising pentoxifylline and a polyoxyalkylene block copolymer are applied to the injured areas subsequent to surgical injury.
Claims15
A method of inhibiting the formation/reformation of internal adhesions which comprises applying to one or more tissues of a mammal an aqueous composition comprising:
- (1) an effective amount of pentoxifylline;
- (2) about 60% to about 90% by weight of water, and;
- (3) about 5% to about 35% by weight of a polyoxyalkylene block copolymer of the formula
- H(OCH.sub.2 CH.sub.2).sub.56 (OC.sub.3 H.sub.6).sub.101 (OCH.sub.2 CH.sub.2).sub.56 OH.
An aqueous composition for inhibiting internal adhesion formation/reformation following injury to tissues situated in a mammal, said aqueous composition comprising:
- (1) an effective amount of pentoxifylline;
- (2) about 60% to about 90% by weight of water, and;
- (3) about 5% to about 35% by weight of a polyoxyalkylene block copolymer of the formula
- H(OCH.sub.2 CH.sub.2).sub.56 (OC.sub.3 H.sub.6).sub.101 (OCH.sub.2 CH.sub.2).sub.56 OH.
