Abstract
A lubricating system for a four-cycle engine positioned within an engine compartment of a personal watercraft for powering a water propulsion unit thereof, is disclosed. The engine compartment, and engine therein, is accessible through a maintenance opening in deck of the watercraft. Preferably, the lubricating system includes an oil filter which is positioned at other than the bottom of the engine for access through the maintenance opening, such as at the front or rear end of the engine. In addition, the engine preferably includes an oil drain which is positioned below the oil filter for draining the oil from the engine.
Claims20
A watercraft having a water propulsion device powered by a four-cycle internal combustion engine, said engine mounted in an engine compartment defined by a deck connected to a hull of said watercraft, said watercraft including a maintenance opening in said deck for accessing said engine in said engine compartment, said engine having a dry-sump type lubrication system including an oil reservoir positioned external of said engine, an oil supply line extending from said reservoir to said engine, a pump for supplying oil through said supply line to said engine, an oil collector positioned at a bottom of said engine, a return line extending from said engine to said oil reservoir, and an oil filter positioned at other than said bottom of said engine for access from said maintenance opening, and through which lubricating oil is passed for filtering.
A watercraft having a water propulsion device powered by a four-cycle internal combustion engine, said engine mounted in an engine compartment defined by a deck connected to a hull of said watercraft, said watercraft including a seat selectively positioned above a maintenance opening in said deck for accessing said engine in said engine compartment, said engine having a lubricating system including an oil reservoir and means for delivering lubricant from said reservoir through said engine and back to said reservoir, said lubricating system further including an oil filter through which said oil from said reservoir passes for filtering, said oil filter positioned at other than a bottom of said engine.
A watercraft having a water propulsion device powered by a four-cycle internal combustion engine, said engine mounted in an engine compartment defined by a deck connected to a hull of said watercraft, said watercraft including a seat selectively positioned above a maintenance opening in said deck for accessing said engine in said engine compartment, an drain positioned in a lower portion of said engine compartment for draining water therefrom, said engine having a lubricating system including an oil reservoir, means for delivering lubricant from said reservoir through said engine and back to said reservoir, and an oil filter through which said lubricant passes for filtering, said oil filter positioned above said drain.
A watercraft having a water propulsion device powered by a four-cycle internal combustion engine, said engine mounted in an engine compartment defined by a deck connected to a hull of said watercraft, said watercraft including a seat selectively positioned above a maintenance opening in said deck for accessing said engine in said engine compartment, said engine having a crankshaft extending in driving relation to a drive shaft of said water propulsion device, said engine having a lubricating system including an oil reservoir positioned above said crankshaft, means for delivering lubricant from said reservoir through said engine and back to said reservoir, and an oil filter through which said lubricant passes for filtering, said oil filter connected to said oil reservoir.
