Abstract
A composite material is composed of a matrix and dispersed components which form a discontinuous three-dimensional network structure in the matrix. It permits the dispersed components to fully exhibit the characteristic properties without any loss of mechanical properties. A process for producing the above-mentioned composite material includes preparing a raw material powder such that granules of desired shape for the matrix are discontinuously covered with components of desired shape for the dispersed phase, molding the raw material powder into a desired shape, and heating the molded article.
Claims31
A composite material comprising:
- a matrix comprising a plurality of granules;
- and
- 0.01 to 70 volume % of a dispersed component discontinuously dispersed at the surface of said granules,
- wherein said granules are in contact with each other such that said dispersed component forms a non-uniform three-dimensional network structure.
A composite material comprising:
- a matrix comprising a plurality of granules, each granule comprising a plurality of crystalline grains;
- and
- a dispersed component discontinuously dispersed at the surface of said granules,
- wherein said granules are in contact with each other such that said dispersed component forms a non-uniform three-dimensional network structure.
A composite material comprising:
- a matrix comprising a plurality of granules with an average diameter of 3 .mu.m to 500 .mu.m, each granules comprising an amorphous material;
- and
- 0.01 to 70 volume % of a dispersed component having an average particle size of not more than 180 .mu.m discontinuously dispersed at the surface of said granules,
- wherein said granules are in contact with each other such that said dispersed component forms a non-uniform three-dimensional network structure.
