Abstract
Disclosed are coating compositions, wearlayer compositions and surface covering products which utilize wearlayer compositions. The wearlayer compositions of the present invention are capable of at once exhibiting high initial gloss values and excellent resistance to scuff, stain and gloss loss. Such wearlayer compositions are produced utilizing curable coating compositions which comprise thermoplastic polymer, from about 3% by weight to about 25% by weight of plasticizer for the thermoplastic polymer and at least about 30% by weight of reactive crosslinking agent. The weight ratio of the thermoplastic polymer to the crosslinking agent is preferably no greater than about 2:1.
Claims20
A coating composition comprising:
- (a) thermoplastic polymer;
- (b) from about 3% by weight to about 25% by weight of plasticizer for said thermoplastic polymer;
- and
- (c) at least about 30% by weight of crosslinking agent, the weight ratio of said thermoplastic polymer to said crosslinking agent being no greater than about 2:1.
A gloss retentive wear surface resistant to scuffing and staining comprising a layer of plasticized polymer comprising:
- (a) from about 3% by weight to about 25% by weight of plasticizer;
- (b) thermoplastic polymer fused in said plasticizer;
- and
- (c) at least about 30% by weight of cured crosslinking agent, said wear surface being scuff resistant and having:
- an unflattened initial gloss of at least about 70.degree.;
- an average gloss loss of no greater than about 70%;
- and
- a stain resistance to shoe polish and coal tar of no greater than about 2.0.
