A threading device for a machine for processing web-shaped material, having a guide rail extending at least sectionwise through the machine, includes a pulling device movable along the guide rail for pulling a web behind it, and an electric linear drive for activating the pulling device; and a method of threading the web through the processing machine.

A method of threading a material web into a machine for processing web-shaped material, which comprises driving a rail-guided pulling device by direct action of magnetic forces, and having the pulling device pull a web behind it.
