Synthesis of functional silyl terminated branched polyalkenylenes and polyolefins

A method for preparing an .alpha.,.omega.-silyl terminated branched polyalkenylene comprising reacting a mixture comprising:

• (A) at least one cycloolefin, and
• (B) at least one alkenylsilane in the presence of an acid free metathesis catalyst system to produce an .alpha.,.omega.-silyl terminated branched polyalkenylene.

An .alpha.,.omega.-silyl terminated branched polyalkenylene having the general formula:

• ##STR12## where R, R', R", R"' and R"" are independently selected from the group (C.sub.1 -C.sub.6), H, aryl, organo functional cycloalkane;
• x is 1-10, y is 10-10,000 and z=3-20.

An .alpha.,.omega.-silyl terminated branched polyolefin having the general formula:

• ##STR13## where R, R', R", R"' and R"" are independently selected from the group (C.sub.1 -C.sub.6), H, aryl organofunctional alkyl group, chloro, bromo, alkoxy and cycloalkane;
• x is 1-10, y is 10-10,000 and z=3-20.
