Abstract
An electrode comprises a first catalytic component active at gas-phase reaction sites and a second catalytic component active at electrochemical reaction sites wherein each catalytic component is present either as a separate layer, or a single mixed layer or a combination of a separate layer and a single mixed layer. The electrode has an improved tolerance to poisons such as carbon monoxide and carbon dioxide.
Claims14
An electrode which may be an anode or cathode comprising a first catalytic component and a second catalytic component, characterized in that the first catalytic component is active at gas-phase reaction sites and the second catalytic component is active at electrochemical reaction sites provided that when the electrode is an anode the first catalytic component and the second catalytic component are in physical contact, the first and second catalytic components being arranged such that a reactant gas stream will first contact the first catalytic component, and thereafter contact the second catalytic component.
