Active matrix type liquid crystal display system

A liquid crystal display device having a plurality of switching elements, comprising:

• a pair of substrates;
• a liquid crystal layer interposed between said pair of substrates;
• an electrode structure formed on one substrate of said pair of substrates for generating an electric field having a component predominantly in parallel with said one of said pair of substrates;
• and
• a shield electrode structure formed on another substrate of said pair of substrates and at least between a signal electrode and a pixel electrode for reducing parasitic capacitance between the signal electrode and the pixel electrode.

A liquid crystal display device having a plurality of switching elements, comprising:

• a pair of substrates;
• a liquid crystal layer interposed between said pair of substrates;
• an electrode structure formed on one substrate of said pair of substrates for generating an electric field having a component predominantly in parallel with said one of said pair of substrates;
• and
• a shield electrode structure formed on said one of said pair of substrates and at least between a signal electrode and a pixel electrode for reducing parasitic capacitance between the signal electrode and the pixel electrode.

A liquid crystal display device comprising:

• a pair of substrates;
• a liquid crystal layer interposed between said pair of substrates;
• and
• signal electrode lines and scanning electrode lines formed on one of said pair of substrates so as to cross each other in a matrix form, said signal electrode lines and said scanning electrode lines forming a plurality of pixels;
• wherein each pixel of said pixels comprises:
• at least one semiconductor switching element formed proximate to a crossing point of a corresponding signal electrode line and scanning electrode line;
• at least one pixel electrode line formed on said one of said pair of substrates and extended in a direction of extension of said signal electrode lines, wherein said at least one pixel electrode line is connected to a corresponding at least one semiconductor switching element;
• and
• at least one common electrode line formed on said one of said pair of substrates, said at least one common electrode line being extended in a direction of extension of said at least one pixel electrode line;
• wherein an electric field having a component predominantly in parallel with said one of said pair of substrates is generated by application of a voltage between said at least one pixel electrode line and said at least one common electrode line;
• and
• a shield electrode structure is formed on another of said pair of substrates and at least between a signal electrode and a pixel electrode for reducing parasitic capacitance between the signal electrode and the pixel electrode.

A liquid crystal display device comprising:

• a pair of substrates;
• a liquid crystal layer interposed between said pair of substrates;
• and
• signal electrode lines and scanning electrode lines formed on one of said pair of substrates so as to cross each other in a matrix form, said signal electrode lines and said scanning electrode lines forming a plurality of pixels;
• wherein each pixel of said pixels comprises:
• at least one semiconductor switching element formed proximate to a crossing point of a corresponding signal electrode line and scanning electrode line;
• at least one pixel electrode line formed on said one of said pair of substrates and extended in a direction of extension of said signal electrode lines, wherein said at least one pixel electrode line is connected to a corresponding at least one semiconductor switching element;
• and
• at least one common electrode line formed on said one of said pair of substrates, said at least one common electrode line being extended in a direction of extension of said at least one pixel electrode line;
• wherein an electric field having a component predominantly in parallel with said one of said pair of substrates is generated by applying a voltage between said at least one pixel electrode line and said at least one common electrode line;
• and
• a shield electrode structure is formed on said one of said pair of substrates and at least between a signal electrode and a pixel electrode for reducing parasitic capacitance between the signal electrode and the pixel electrode.

A liquid crystal display device having a plurality of switching elements, comprising:

• a pair of substrates;
• a liquid crystal layer interposed between said pair of substrates;
• an electrode structure formed on one substrate of said pair of substrates for generating an electric field having a component predominantly in parallel with said one of said pair of substrates;
• and
• a shield electrode structure formed on one of said one substrate and another substrate of said pair of substrates for effecting electric shielding, said shield electrode structure being formed between said another substrate and at least a portion of said electrode structure for generating said electric field having the component predominantly in parallel with said one of said pair of substrates.
