Abstract
Molded articles of silane-crosslinked blends comprising a polyolefin elastomer and a crystalline polyolefin polymer exhibit desirable tensile strength and/or compression set properties, and are prepared by (i) blending a low density polyolefin elastomer with a crystalline polyolefin polymer, (ii) grafting the blend with a silane crosslinker, (iii) shaping the silane-grafted blend into the molded article, and (iv) curing the shaped, silane-grafted blend with water, preferably in the presence of a cure catalyst.
Claims19
A silane-crosslinked blend comprising (a) a polyolefin elastomer with a density of less than 0.885 g/cc, (b) a crystalline polyolefin polymer with a percent crystallinity of at least about 40%, and (c) a silane crosslinker, the polyolefin elastomer comprising at least about 70 weight percent of the total weight of the blend.
A silane-crosslinkable blend comprising (a) a polyolefin elastomer with a density of less than 0.885 g/cc, (b) a crystalline polyolefin polymer with a percent crystallinity of at least about 40%, and (c) a silane crosslinker, the polyolefin elastomer comprising at least about 70 weight percent of the total weight of the blend.
A process for making an article comprising a silane-crosslinked blend comprising (a) at least about 70 weight percent of the total weight of the blend of a polyolefin elastomer with a density of less than 0.885 g/cc, (b) a crystalline polyolefin polymer with a percent crystallinity of at least about 40%, and (c) a silane crosslinker, the process comprising the steps of (i) blending the polyolefin elastomer with the crystalline polyolefin polymer, (ii) grafting the blend with a silane crosslinker, (iii) shaping the silane-grafted blend into the article, and (iv) curing the shaped, silane-grafted blend with water.
A process for making an article comprising a silane-crosslinked blend comprising (a) at least about 70 weight percent of the total weight of the blend of a polyolefin elastomer with a density of less than 0.885 g/cc, (b) a crystalline polyolefin polymer with a percent crystallinity of at least about 40%, and (c) a silane crosslinker, the process comprising the steps of (i) blending the polyolefin elastomer with the crystalline polyolefin polymer, (ii) simultaneously grafting with a silane crosslinker and shaping the blend into the article, and (iii) curing the shaped, silane-grafted blend with water.
An article comprising a silane-crosslinked blend comprising (a) at least about 70 weight percent of the total weight of the article of a polyolefin elastomer with a density of less than 0.885 g/cc, (b) a crystalline polyolefin polymer with a percent crystallinity of at least about 40%, and (c) a silane crosslinker.
