Abstract
Provided is a media-ink jet fluid marking material set which comprises a media comprising a support with a hydrophilic receiving layer together with an ink jet fluid marking material which comprises a liquid carrier medium and at least one organic or transition metal complex reactive component. Upon ink jet printing and subsequent exposure to an energy source, an effective amount of an olcophilic, water-insoluble, and substantially non-metallic pattern is achieved on the hydrophilic media. Such a media-ink jet fluid marking material set can be advantageously used in the manufacture of lithographic printing plates, and provides many advantages in the manufacture of durable and water-insoluble imaging elements.
Claims37
A media/ink jet fluid marking material set for use in manufacturing lithographic printing plates, comprising:
- (a) a media comprising a support that bears a receiving layer comprising at least one hydrophilic material;
- and
- (b) an ink jet fluid marking material comprising a liquid carrier medium and at least one transition metal complex reactive component, said reactive component reacting upon exposure to an energy source after ink jet printing in a desired imagewise pattern of said fluid marking material on said receiving layer, thereby forming an effective amount of an oleophilic, water-insoluble, and substantially non-metallic layer in said desired imagewise pattern on said media.
A method of preparing an imaged lithographic printing plate, comprising providing a lithographic plate blank having a support that bears a receiving layer comprising at least one hydrophilic material and forming an image on said layer of the plate blank with an ink jet printer wherein an ink jet fluid marking material utilized in said ink jet printer comprises a liquid carrier medium and at least one transition metal complex reactive component, said reactive component reacting upon exposure to an energy source after ink jet printing, thereby forming an effective amount of an oleophilic, water-insoluble, and substantially non-metallic pattern on said plate blank.
