Abstract
Disclosed herein is a dye represented by any one of the following general formulae ##STR1## wherein D is a chromophore, R is a bivalent or trivalent linking group, M is a tetravalent linking group, and IM is a secondary or tertiary amine residue substituted by at least one radical selected from the group consisting of alkyl groups, a carboxyl group, salts of the carboxyl group, a sulfonic group, salts of the sulfonic group, a phosphoric group and salts of the phosphoric group, with the proviso that D, R, M and IM have 1 to 12 acid groups in total.
Claims43
A dye represented by any one of the following general formulae:
- ##STR47## wherein D is a chromophore, R is a bivalent or trivalent linking group, and IM is a secondary or tertiary amine residue substituted by at least one radical selected from the group consisting of alkyl groups, a carboxyl group, salts of the carboxyl group, a sulfonic group, salts of the sulfonic group, a phosphoric group and salts of the phosphoric group, with the proviso that D, R and IM have 1 to 12 acid groups in total,
- wherein IM in each of the general formulae (I-1) to (I-5) is a compound represented by the following general formula (II) in the state of a sole compound;
- ##STR48## wherein R.sub.8 denotes an alkyl group having 1 to 48 carbon atoms or hydrogen, R.sub.9 denotes --(CH.sub.2).sub.a --X.sub.2 or hydrogen, in which a is an integer of 1 to 7, R.sub.10 denotes --(CH.sub.2).sub.b --X.sub.3, R.sub.11 --Y.sub.2 -- or hydrogen, in which b is an integer of 1 to 7, R.sub.11 denotes an alkyl group having 1 to 48 carbon atoms or hydrogen, Z.sub.2 denotes --(NR.sub.12 C.sub.l H.sub.2l).sub.c (NHC.sub.n H.sub.2n).sub.d --, in which l and n are independently an integer of 2 to 4, and c+d is an integer of 0 to 50, Y.sub.2 denotes (NR.sub.13 C.sub.m H.sub.2m).sub.e (NHC.sub.p H.sub.2p).sub.f --, in which m and p are independently an integer of 2 to 4, and e+f is an integer of 0 to 50, R.sub.12 denotes --(CH.sub.2).sub.g --X.sub.4, in which g is an integer of 1 to 4, R.sub.13 denotes --(CH.sub.2).sub.h --X.sub.5, in which h is an integer of 1 to 4, and X.sub.2, X.sub.3, X.sub.4 and X.sub.5 are independently selected from the group consisting of a carboxyl group, a sulfonic group and hydrogen, with the proviso that the compound of the general formula (II) has at least one carboxyl group, salt of the carboxyl group, sulfonic group or salt of the sulfonic group;
- and
- wherein the compound of the general formula (II) has at least two nitrogen atoms.

An ink comprising, in a liquid medium, a dye represented by any one of the following general formulae:
- ##STR49## wherein D is a chromophore, R is a bivalent or trivalent linking group, and IM is a secondary or tertiary amine residue substituted by at least one radical selected from the group consisting of alkyl groups, a carboxyl group, salts of the carboxyl group, a sulfonic group, salts of the sulfonic group, a phosphoric group and salts of the phosphoric group, with the proviso that D, R and IM have 1 to 12 acid groups in total,
- wherein IM in each of the general formulae (I-1) to (I-5) is a compound represented by the following general formula (II) in the state of a sole compound;
- ##STR50## wherein R.sub.8 denotes an alkyl group having 1 to 48 carbon atoms or hydrogen, R.sub.9 denotes --(CH.sub.2).sub.a --X.sub.2 or hydrogen, in which a is an integer of 1 to 7, R.sub.10 denotes --(CH.sub.2).sub.b --X.sub.3, R.sub.11 --Y.sub.2 -- or hydrogen, in which b is an integer of 1 to 7, R.sub.11 denotes an alkyl group having 1 to 48 carbon atoms or hydrogen, Z.sub.2 denotes --(NR.sub.12 C.sub.l H.sub.2l).sub.c (NHC.sub.n H.sub.2n).sub.d --, in which l and n are independently an integer of 2 to 4, and c+d is an integer of 0 to 50, Y.sub.2 denotes (NR.sub.13 C.sub.m H.sub.2m).sub.e (NHC.sub.p H.sub.2p).sub.f --, in which m and p are independently an integer of 2 to 4, and e+f is an integer of 0 to 50, R.sub.12 denotes --(CH.sub.2).sub.g --X.sub.4, in which g is an integer of 1 to 4, R.sub.13 denotes --(CH.sub.2).sub.h --X.sub.5, in which h is an integer of 1 to 4, and X.sub.2, X.sub.3, X.sub.4 and X.sub.5 are independently selected from the group consisting of a carboxyl group, a sulfonic group and hydrogen, with the proviso that the compound of the general formula (II) has at least one carboxyl group, salt of the carboxyl group, sulfonic group or salt of the sulfonic group;
- and
- wherein the compound of the general formula has at least two nitrogen atoms.
