System in which a Proxy-Server translates information received from the Internet into a form/format readily usable by low power portable computers

An Internet Proxy-Server comprising:

• a first data port adapted for accessing other Internet servers;
• and
• a second data port adapted for connecting to a field computer;
• wherein the first Internet server is adapted to access the other Internet servers through the first data port, directed by commands and data received through the second data port from the field computer, to download data from the Internet servers thus accessed, to transpose the downloaded data by reducing information density, and to transfer the transposed data to the field computer via the first data link in a TCP/IP format.

A method for browsing the World Wide Web (WWW) with a first computer, comprising steps of:

• (a) sending browsing commands and data from the first computer to a second, more powerful computer via a data link connecting the first computer to the second computer;
• (b) using the browsing commands and data from the first computer to access and browse the WWW via a data port connecting the second computer to the WWW;
• (c) downloading files from the WWW via the data port to the second computer;
• (d) transposing the downloaded files in the second computer by reducing information density;
• and
• (e) transferring the transposed files via the data link to the first computer.
