Abstract
Phthalazinedione compounds and pharmaceutical compositions are described. The compositions are useful in treating human or animal patients to alleviate or cure disease or disease symptoms caused by nuclear ADP-ribosyl and similar transferases.
Claims12
A pharmaceutical composition, comprising a pharmaceutically acceptable diluent or carrier and
- a poly (ADP-ribose)polymerase inhibiting effective amount compound of the general formula:
- ##STR8## wherein:
- R.sub.2 is at the 5- or 8- position and is acylamino;
- hydroxyalkylamino, haloalkylamino;
- mercaptoalkylamino derivative, hydroxy or hydroxyalkyl;
- mercapto or mercapto alkyl guanidino or substituted guanidino;
- or ureido or substituted ureido.
A pharmaceutical composition comprising a pharmaceutically acceptable diluent or carrier and a poly (ADP-ribose) polymerase inhibiting effective amount of a compound of the general formula:
- ##STR9## wherein R.sub.2 is hydroxy or R.sub.4 CONH--, wherein R.sub.4 is selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, alkyl, haloalkyl, alkenyl, amino and substituted amino.
A pharmaceutical composition in unit dosage form comprising a pharmaceutically acceptable diluent or carrier and a poly (ADP-ribose) polymerase inhibiting compound of the general formula:
- ##STR10## wherein R.sub.2 is at the 5- or 8- position and is hydroxy or R.sub.4 CONH wherein R.sub.4 is selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, alkyl, haloalkyl and alkenyl.
