Abstract
A multi-processing transient event detector for use in a nonintrusive electrical load monitoring system has been provided. Templates of transient pattern data associated with each electrical load which may be monitored are stored. Such templates are then used to match and correlate with the actual monitored transient pattern data at the load site. The decomposition in which time scales are changed is accomplished in parallel along with one or more parallel event detection processing modules for each decomposition.
Claims9
A multi-processing transient event detector for use in a nonintrusive electrical load monitoring system at the monitored site having a plurality of electrical loads wherein start-up transient pattern data associated with each electrical load being monitored has been previously stored, said transient pattern data corresponding to approximate envelopes of harmonic content of observed current or voltage waveforms produced by said plurality of electrical loads, said detector comprising:
- data monitoring means for continuously monitoring total load pattern transient data at said site in parallel, to provide a plurality of data streams, said total load pattern transient data corresponding to an aggregation of said envelopes of harmonic content, each data stream having a unique load pattern related to a particular said harmonic content;
- for each said data stream means for providing parallel decomposition including a plurality of single processor units in parallel with each other, each processor unit having a unique time scale to provide a corresponding envelope;
- each parallel processor unit being coupled to at least one event detection processing module for processing said corresponding envelope and having a unique time scale for correlation or matching with a particular stored start-up transient pattern associated with the electrical load being monitored whereby said electrical load is identified.
A method for multi-processing transient event detection for use in a nonintrusive electrical load monitoring system at the monitored site having a plurality of electrical loads wherein start-up transient pattern data associated with each electrical load being monitored has been previously stored, said transient pattern data corresponding to approximate envelopes of harmonic content of observed current or voltage waveforms produced by said plurality of electrical loads, said method comprising the steps of:
- data monitoring by continuously monitoring total load pattern transient data at said sites in parallel, to provide a plurality of data streams, said total load pattern transient data corresponding to an aggregation of said envelopes of harmonic content, each data stream having a unique load pattern related to a particular said harmonic content;
- for each said data stream decomposing in parallel to provide a plurality of unique time scales for each said data stream and to provide a corresponding envelope;
- for each decomposed data stream having a given said time scale, event detection processing said corresponding envelope having a unique time scale for correlation or matching with a particular stored start-up transient pattern associated with the electrical load being monitored whereby said electrical load is identified.
