Abstract
High performance silicone rubber windshield wiper blades are provided as a result of molding a tintable platinum group metal catalyzed silicone compositions having an intrinsic viscosity of less than 1.3. Improved lubricity with respect to windshield wiper glass is achieved by a molding procedure which effects a transfer such as a migration, or diffusion of release agent, for example polytetrafluoroethylene, into the surface of the silicone rubber windshield wiper blade.
Claims9
A silicone rubber windshield wiper blade having a specific gravity of 1.15 to 1.29 and surface treated with polytetraflouroethylene to a depth of up to about 0.2 mil.
A silicone rubber windshield wiper blade having a specific gravity of 1.15 to 1.29 which has been reinforced with a mixture consisting essentially of fumed silica and ground glass having an average particle size in the range of about 5 to about 15 microns to provide a silicone rubber windshield wiper blade having a tensile strength in the range of 1100 to 1600 psi, where the silicone rubber windshield wiper blade has been surface treated with a release agent in an amount sufficient to provide a coefficient of friction with respect to automotive windshield glass in the range of about 0.1 to about 0.3.
