Abstract
The reaction of phosphorus pentachloride with ammonium chloride is conducted in the presence of a metal-containing catalyst and carbon dioxide, preferably supercritical carbon dioxide, as a solvent. The product is generally superior in catalytic action for the polycondensation and rearrangement of organosiloxanes to conventional linear phosphonitrilic chlorides.
Claims5
A method for making a phosphorus-nitrogen product which comprises effecting reaction under substantially anhydrous conditions, at a temperature above 110.degree. and below the decomposition temperature of any reactants or product and in the presence of an effective amount of a metal-containing catalyst, between phosphorus pentachloride and ammonium chloride in a molar ratio in the range of about 1.5-5.0:1, in the presence of an amount of carbon dioxide sufficient to maintain a reaction pressure of about 80-350 atm.
A method for making a phosphorus-nitrogen product which comprises:
- effecting reaction under substantially anhydrous conditions, in a reactor at a temperature above 110.degree. and below the decomposition temperature of any reactants or product and in the presence of an effective amount of a catalytic amount of a transition metal compound, between phosphorus pentachloride and ammonium chloride in a molar ratio in the range of about 1.5-5.0:1, in the presence of an amount of carbon dioxide sufficient to maintain a reaction pressure of about 130-350 atm;
- venting the reactor of gaseous materials which are passed through a basic solution;
- and
- recovering reaction solids from the reactor under ambient conditions.
