Abstract
An anodizing electrolyte containing a polyethylene glycol dimethyl ether and an electrochemical process for anodizing valve metals which permits the formulation of an anodic layer having a substantially uniform thickness and reduced flaw density.
Claims19
An electrolyte comprising water, a polyethylene glycol dimethyl ether having from 4 to about 10 repeating ethylene oxide units and phosphoric acid or an electrolyte-soluble salt thereof, said electrolyte having a resistivity below about 5000 ohm cm at 30.degree. C.
A process for anodizing a valve metal comprising conducting the anodization at a temperature below about 50.degree. C. in an aqueous electrolyte containing a polyethylene glycol dimethyl ether having from 4 to about 10 repeating ethylene oxide units and phosphoric acid or an electrolyte-soluble salt thereof, said electrolyte having a resistivity below about 5000 ohm cm at 30.degree. C.
