Abstract
A process for producing tetrafluoromethane which comprises reacting a hydrofluorocarbon containing one carbon atom in the molecule with fluorine gas at an elevated temperature in a vapor phase in the presence of a diluent gas.
Claims12
A process for producing tetrafluoromethane which comprises reacting a hydrofluorocarbon containing one carbon atom in the molecule with fluorine gas in a reactor at an elevated temperature in a vapor phase in the presence of an added diluent gas comprising a gas selected from the group consisting of tetrafluoromethane, hexafluoroethane, octafluoropropane and hydrogen fluoride, said diluent gas being present in a sufficient quantity to dilute said hydrofluorocarbon below an explosive concentration range.
