## Abstract

Polyurethanes suitable as coating materials or components thereof are essentially composed of A) a.sub.1) from 40 to 100 mol % of bis(4-isocyanatocyclohexyl)methane, the trans/trans content of (a.sub.1) being up to 18 mol %, based on the amount of (a.sub.1), and a.sub.2) from 0 to 60 mol % of further polyfunctional aliphatic, cycloaliphatic, araliphatic or aromatic isocyanates of 4 to 30 carbon atoms and B) b.sub.1) from 20 to 100 mol % of a nonaromatic diol and b.sub.2) from 0 to 80 mol % of further polyfunctional compounds having reactive groups which can react with the isocyanate groups (A), the reactive groups being hydroxyl or primary or secondary amino groups.

## Claims

### Claim 1

A polyurethane consisting essentially of
A)
a.sub.1) from 40 to 100 mol % of bis(4-isocyanatocyclohexyl)methane, the trans/trans content of (a.sub.1) being up to 18 wt, based on the amount of (a.sub.1), and
a.sub.2) from 0 to 60 mol % of further polyfunctional aliphatic, cycloaliphatic, araliphatic or aromatic isocyanates of 4 to 30 carbon atoms
and
B)
b.sub.1) from 20 to 100 mol % of a nonaromatic diol and
b.sub.2) from 0 to 80 mol % of further polyfunctional compounds having reactive groups which can react with the isocyanate groups (A), the reactive groups being hydroxyl or primary or secondary amino groups.

### Claim 2 (depends on 1)

A polyurethane as defined in claim 1, which is partly composed of monomers (a.sub.2), (b.sub.1) or (b.sub.2) which, in order to improve the water dispersibility of the polyurethane, carry hydrophilic groups which have little or no reactivity with isocyanates.

### Claim 3 (depends on 1)

A polyurethane as defined in claim 1, wherein the ratio of the cis/cis isomer to the cis/trans isomer of bis(4-isocyanatocyclohexyl)methane is from 0.2:1 to 3:1.

### Claim 4 (depends on 1)

A polyurethane as defined in claim 1 wherein component b.sub.1 is composed of
b.sub.1.1) from 15 to 85 mol %, based on the total amount of the monomers (b.sub.1), which have a molecular weight of from 500 to 5,000 g/mol, and
b.sub.1.2) from 15 to 85 mol %, based on the total amount of the monomers (b.sub.1), which have a molecular weight of from 60 to 500 g/mol.

### Claim 5 (depends on 1)

A polyurethane as defined in claim 1, composed of from 0 to 50 mol % of a polyamine having at least 2 amino groups reactive toward isocyanates, as monomer (B).

### Claim 6 (depends on 1)

A polyurethane as defined in claim 1, in which the ratio of all isocyanate groups of the monomers (A) to all those functional groups of the monomers (B) which are reactive with isocyanate groups is from 0.5:1 to 2:1.

### Claim 7 (depends on 1)

An aqueous dispersion or nonaqueous solution containing a polyurethane as defined in claim 1.

### Claim 8 (depends on 7)

A method for adhesive bonding or coating of articles, wherein the dispersion or nonaqueous solution as defined in claim 7 is applied to the articles.

### Claim 9 (depends on 8)

A coated or adhesively bonded article, obtained using an aqueous dispersion or nonaqueous solution as claimed in claim 8 as the coating material or adhesive.

### Claim 10 (depends on 1)

A polyurethane as defined in claim 1, wherein component a.sub.1 has a trans/trans content of up to 15 wt %.

### Claim 11 (depends on 1)

A polyurethane as defined in claim 1, wherein component a.sub.1 a trans/trans content of up to 12 wt %.
