## Abstract

10-thio-substituted 1,8-dihydroxy-9(10H) anthracenones, therapeutic compositions containing at least one of the 10-thio-substituted 1,8-dihydroxy-9(10H) anthracenones of the invention and methods of treating inflammatory conditions are provided.

## Claims

### Claim 1

A compound according to formula III ##STR4## wherein R represents a substituted phenyl group having at least one substituent selected from the group consisting of methyl ester, amino, hydroxyl and sulfhydryl groups.

### Claim 2 (depends on 1)

The compound according to claim 1 wherein R represents a substituted phenyl group selected from the group consisting of 2-H.sub.2 NC.sub.6 H.sub.4, 3-H.sub.2 NC.sub.6 H.sub.4, 4-H.sub.2 NC.sub.6 H.sub.4, 4-HOC.sub.6 H.sub.4, 2-HOC.sub.6 H.sub.4, 2-HSC.sub.6 H.sub.4, 3-HSC.sub.6 H.sub.4, 4-CH.sub.3 OC.sub.6 H.sub.4, 3-CH.sub.3 OC.sub.6 H.sub.4 and 2-CH.sub.3 OC.sub.6 H.sub.4.

### Claim 3 (depends on 1)

The compound according to claim 1 wherein R represents a substituted phenyl group selected from the group consisting of 4-HOC.sub.6 H.sub.4, 4-H.sub.2 NC.sub.6 H.sub.4, 3-H.sub.2 NC.sub.6 H.sub.4 and 2-H.sub.2 NC.sub.6 H.sub.4.

A therapeutic composition comprising a therapeutically effective amount of at least compound according to claim 2 and a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier.

A therapeutic composition comprising a therapeutically effective amount of at least one compound according to claim 3 and a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier.

A therapeutic composition comprising a therapeutically effective amount of at least one compound according to claim 1 and a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier.

A method for inhibiting or treating an allergic or inflammatory condition in a patient in need thereof comprising administering to said patient a therapeutically effective amount of the composition according to claim 4.

A method for inhibiting or treating an allergic or inflammatory condition in a patient in need thereof comprising administering to said patient a therapeutically effective amount of the composition according to claim 5.
