## Abstract

DNA sequences encoding a novel intercellular adhesion molecule polypeptide (designated "ICAM-4") and variants thereof are disclosed along with methods and materials for production of the same by recombinant procedures.

### Claim 1

A purified and isolated polynucleotide comprising the ICAM-4 protein coding sequence set out in SEQ ID NO: 1.

The polynucleotide of claim 1 which is a DNA molecule.

### Claim 3 (depends on 2)

The DNA molecule of claim 2 which is a cDNA molecule.

### Claim 4 (depends on 2)

The DNA molecule of claim 2 which is a wholly or partially chemically synthesized DNA molecule.

### Claim 5

A purified and isolated DNA molecule consisting of a nucleotide sequence which encodes the ICAM-4 amino acid sequence set out in SEQ ID NO: 2.

The DNA molecule of claim 5 which is a genomic DNA molecule.

A DNA expression construct comprising a DNA molecule according to claim 2 or 5.

A method for producing an ICAM-4 polypeptide comprising growing a host cell according to claim 8 in a suitable medium, isolating ICAM-4 polypeptide from said host cell or the medium of its growth, and recovering said ICAM-4 polypeptide.
