Abstract
A composition comprising water and the following components: (a) an epoxy compound comprising at least one epoxy group and at least one hydrolysable silyl group; and (b) a hydroxy functional polymer having carboxy and/or sulpho groups. The compositions are generally water-based and may be used for making films and coatings having good mechanical and physical properties.

A composition comprising water and the following components:
- a) an epoxy compound comprising at least one epoxy group, at least one nitrogen atom selected from the group consisting of amino, amido and urea nitrogen atoms and at least one hydrolysable silyl group;
- and
- (b) a hydroxy functional polymer having carboxy and/or sulpho groups.
A composition according to claim 1 wherein component (a) is of Formula (2) ##STR28## wherein:
- L.sup.1, L.sup.2, L.sup.3, and Y are as defined in claim 5;
- R.sup.2 is H or optionally substituted alkyl or acyl;
- L.sup.5, L.sup.6 and L.sup.7 are each independently organic linker groups;
- a is 1 to 5;
- b is 0 to 4;
- c is 1 to 5;
- and
- (a+b+c)=6.
