Abstract
Radiation sensitive compositions, processes for using the compositions, and articles of manufacture comprising the compositions. The photoimageable compositions of the invention comprises a radiation sensitive component, a resin binder and a polybutadiene that comprises one or more internal epoxide groups. In preferred aspects, the compositions of the invention further comprise a crosslinking agent such as a melamine or an epoxidized material, or mixtures thereof.
Claims27
A process for forming an imaged coating layer on a substrate comprising the steps of:
- (a) applying a coating layer of a radiation sensitive composition on the substrate, the composition comprising an aqueous soluble resin binder, a polybutadiene having one or more internal epoxide groups and a radiation sensitive component selected from the group consisting of a photoacid generator and a photobase generator;
- (b) exposing the coating layer to activating radiation to yield a latent image in the coating layer;
- and
- (c) developing the exposed coating layer with an aqueous solution to yield a relief image.
A process for the manufacture of a flexible circuit, the flexible circuit comprising a flexible circuit board base material having a flexible photoimaged cover layer, the process comprising:
- (a) providing a flexible circuit board base substrate with conductive circuit parts thereon;
- (b) applying a coating of a photoimageable dielectric composition comprising an aqueous soluble resin binder, a polybutadiene having one or more internal epoxide groups, and a radiation sensitive component selected from the group consisting of photoacid generators and photobase generators;
- and
- (c) forming an image in said coating by exposure to activating radiation and developing said imaged coating with an aqueous developer.
A process for forming an imaged coating layer on a substrate, comprising:
- (a) applying a coating layer of a radiation sensitive composition on the substrate, the composition comprising a resin binder, a polybutadiene that comprises one or more internal epoxide groups, a radiation sensitive component selected from the group consisting of a photoacid generator and a photobase generator, and a crosslinker selected from the group consisting of a compound having an amine functionality, a compound having one or more epoxy groups, a compound containing one or more electrophilic multiple bonds, and an aromatic compound containing one or more allyl substituents;
- (b) exposing the coating layer to yield a latent image in the coating layer;
- and
- (c) developing the exposed coating layer to yield a relief image.
A process for forming an imaged coating layer on a substrate, comprising:
- (a) applying a coating layer of an aqueous developable photoimageable composition on the substrate, the composition comprising a resin binder, a polybutadiene that comprises one or more internal epoxide groups and a radiation sensitive component selected from the group consisting of a photoacid generator and a photobase generator;
- (b) exposing the coating layer to yield a latent image in the coating layer;
- and
- (c) developing the exposed coating layer with an aqueous-based developer solution to yield a relief image.
