Abstract
Biocidal proteins isolated from Mirabilis have been characterised. The proteins show a wide range of antifungal activity and are active against gram-positive bacteria. DNA encoding the proteins has been isolated and incorporated into vectors. Plants transformed with this DNA have been produced. The proteins find commercial application as antifungal or antibacterial agents; transformed plants will show increased disease-resistance.
Claims8
An isolated recombinant DNA sequence coding for an antimicrobial protein selected from the group consisting of the pure protein Mj-AMP1 having SEQ ID NO:
- 1 and the pure protein Mj-AMP2 having SED ID NO:
- 2.
Plants transformed with a recombinant DNA sequence coding for the protein Mj-AMP1.
Plants transformed with a recombinant DNA sequence coding for the protein Mj-AMP2.
