Abstract
A method is provided for enhancing transmembrane transport of a diagnostic agent across a membrane of a living cell. The method comprises contacting a membrane of a living cell with a complex formed between said diagnostic agent and ligands selected from biotin or biotin receptor-binding analogs of biotin, folate or folate receptor-binding analogs of folate, riboflavin or riboflavin receptor-binding analogs of riboflavin to initiate receptor mediated transmembrane transport of the ligand complex. The method is used for imaging tissues in vivo.
Claims12
A method for enhancing cellular uptake of a diagnostic agent by a living cell, said method comprising the step of contacting the cell with a composition comprising a ligand complex, wherein the ligand complex consists essentially of the diagnostic agent complexed with a ligand selected from the group consisting of biotin, biotin receptor-binding analogs of biotin or other biotin-receptor binding ligands, folate, folate receptor-binding analogs of folate or other folate receptor-binding ligands, riboflavin, riboflavin receptor-binding analogs of riboflavin or other riboflavin receptor-binding ligands, and thiamin, thiamin receptor-binding analogs of thiamin or other thiamin receptor-binding ligands, for a time sufficient to permit transmembrane transport of said ligand complex.
A method for enhancing cellular uptake of a diagnostic agent by a living cell, said method comprising the step of contacting the cell with a composition comprising a ligand complex, wherein the ligand complex consists essentially of the diagnostic agent complexed through a linker to a ligand selected from the group consisting of folate, folate recepto-binding analogs of folate, or other folate receptor-binding ligands.
