Abstract
This disclosure relates to a stabilized plasma injector device specifically adapted to incubate, shape and develop plasma under the influence of an adjustable electromagnetic field to provide ignition and further promote energy coupling between the plasma and a combustible mass. The device includes a pair of shaped coils one of which is evaporated to form the plasma and the other coil provides the electromagnetic force field to influence the characteristic arc symmetry and the energy coupling between the plasma and the surrounding combustible mass.
Claims17
A stabilized plasma arc injector device in a cartridge structure having a power supply connection to provide sufficient power to create plasma and ignite a surrounding combustible mass contained in the cartridge to accelerate a projectile comprising:
- primary conductor means including a helical coil of a first diameter mounted on means for supporting said helical coil for conducting power to a first terminal;
- secondary conductor means including a helical coil of a second diameter for conducting power to a second terminal wherein said second diameter is larger than said first diameter:
- said primary conductor means co-axially disposed in said secondary conductor means forming an interstitial space therebetween;
- said primary conductor means forming a contact at said first terminal;
- and
- said secondary conductor means forming a contact at said first terminal.
A stabilized plasma arc injector device in a cartridge structure with a power supply to supply sufficient power to vaporize one of a plurality of coaxially disposed coils to create plasma and ignite a surrounding combustible mass to accelerate a cartridge integrally attached to the cartridge comprising:
- a first coil conducting power to a first terminal;
- a second coil conducting power to a second terminal;
- said first and said second terminals forming an internal and external contacts with said first terminal;
- and
- said first and second coils forming the plurality of coaxially disposed coils extending substantially between said terminals and forming an interstitial space therebetween.
