Abstract
Certain propenenitrile compounds have been found to function as antifoggants and serve to improve the initial minimum density of black and white photo-thermographic and thermographic elements.
Claims26
A black-and-white photothermographic element comprising a support bearing at least one photosensitive, image-forming, photothermographic emulsion layer comprising:
- (a) a photosensitive silver halide;
- (b) a non-photosensitive, reducible silver source;
- (c) a reducing agent for silver ion;
- (d) a binder;
- and
- (e) at least one substituted propenenitrile compound of the formula:
- ##STR11## wherein:
- R.sup.1 represents a hydroxy group or a metal salt of a hydroxy group;
- R.sup.2 represents an alkyl group or an aryl group;
- and
- X represents an electron withdrawing group;
- or
- R.sup.2 and X taken together can form a ring containing the electron withdrawing group.
