Abstract
A bone inducing material comprising a piezoelectric porous membrane having through-holes of an average pore size of about 0.1 to 5 .mu.m is disclosed. When the bone inducing material according to the present invention is used, bone is rapidly regenerated, and new formation of bone occurs. The bone inducing material is particularly useful in the dental field, for example, for treatment of periodontal diseases by GTR method.
Claims8
A bone inducing material consisting essentially of a piezoelectric porous membrane having through-holes of an average pore size of about 0.1 to 5 .mu.m and having porosity, defined as the ration (percentage) of voids in the apparent volume of the piezoelectric porous membrane, of about 40 to 90%, said piezoelectric porous membrane being composed of a piezoelectric polymer material or a composite material comprising a polymer material and piezoelectric inorganic particle materials.
A method of inducing bone comprising placing a bone inducing material, which consists essentially of a piezoelectric porous membrane having through-holes of an average pore size of about 0.1 to 5 .mu.m and having porosity, defined as the ratio (percentage) of voids in the apparent volume of the piezoelectric porous membrane, of about 40 to 90%, at a site where bone regeneration and/or new formation of bone is required, said piezoelectric porous membrane being composed of a piezoelectric polymer material or a composite material comprising a polymer material and piezoelectric inorganic particle materials.
