Abstract
The present invention provides a process for the capping of a living polymer with a substituted or unsubstituted diphenyl alkylene. Diphenyl alkylene is defined to also include substituted or unsubstituted .alpha.-methoxystyrene, trans-stilbene, 1-isopropenylnapthalene and 2,4-dimethyl-.alpha.-methylstyrene.
Claims7
A method of producing an endcapped polymer comprising contacting under reaction conditions a cationically polymerizable monomer with an initiator to produce a living polymer and thereafter contacting the living polymer with a cationically non-homopolymerizable ethylenically unsaturated monomer, wherein the ethylenically unsaturated non-homopolymerizable monomer is cationically co-polymerizable, to produce the endcapped polymer.
