Abstract
The cationic or basic dyes of formulae (1) and (2) cited in claim 1 are particularly suitable for dyeing paper. These dyes dye paper in a yellow, orange or brown shade having good fastness properties.
Claims16
A process for dying paper which comprises treating the paper with a dye of formula ##STR334## wherein X and Y are each independently of the other hydrogen, halogen, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkoxy, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkylcarbonylamino, arylcarbonylamino, ureido or arylureido,
- R.sub.1 is hydrogen, unsubstituted or substituted alkyl or aryl, or has the meaning of R.sub.2,
- R.sub.2 is a radical of formula ##STR335## wherein B is an unbranched or branched alkylene radical, R.sub.6 is hydrogen or unsubstituted or substituted alkyl,
- R.sub.7 and R.sub.8, are each independently of the other unsubstituted or substituted alkyl, and
- Q.sup..sym. is a cyclic cationic radical, or wherein
- R.sub.6 and R.sub.7, together with the linking N atom, form an unsubstituted or substituted 5-, 6-, or 7-membered ring which may contain further hereto atoms, or wherein R.sub.6, R.sub.7 and R.sub.8, taken together, form a pyridinium ring
- R.sub.3 is a hydrogen, halogen, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl or C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkoxy,
- W is a radical of formula ##STR336## wherein K is a coupling component,
- Z is a linking group of formula --NR.sub.9 --CO--, CO--NR.sub.9 --NR.sub.9 --CO--, ##STR337## or --CO--NR.sub.9 --B.sub.1 --NR.sub.9 --CO--, wherein R.sub.9 is hydrogen or unsubstituted or substituted C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkylene radical, in which the alkylene chain may be straight-chain or branched and may be interrupted by one or more than one member, selected from --NR.sub.9 --, --O--and --S--, and R.sub.3 is hydrogen, halogen, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl or C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkoxy, with the proviso that in the dyes having W as a radical of formula (3), R.sub.2 is of formula (8) wherein Q.sup..sym. is N-C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkylpiperidinium, N-C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkylmorpholinium, N-C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkylpyrrolidinium, N-C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkylpiperazinium, N-C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl-3-pyridinium or N-C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl-4-pyridinium.
