Abstract
Polyketone polymers are cured by exposure to high energy radiation. Radiation sources include gamma radiation sources such as Co.sup.60 emitters as well as e-beam, ion and other commercially used sources of high energy radiation. The materials so produced are high molecular weight crosslinked polyketone polymers which exhibit enhanced mechanical and tribological properties.
Claims28
An article of manufacture comprising a high energy radiation cured alternating aliphatic polyketone wherein said polyketone has a number average average molecular weight of at least about 20,000 and said cured polyketone does not exhibit a substantial increase in light emitted at 490 nm upon exposure to light of 400 nm relative to the polyketone polymer from which said article was cured.
A method of making an article of manufacture comprising injection molding said article from linear alternating polyketone polymer and then exposing said article to high energy radiation until said polyketone polymer cures.
A method of enhancing the tribological properties of an article comprising alternating aliphatic polyketone polymer comprising exposing said article to high energy radiation until said polyketone polymer cures.
