Abstract
Gene activating sequences which activate the expression of other bacterial genes, which are latent or expressed at low levels, are provided. The gene activating sequences confer the ability to produce several metabolites and may be transferred to bacterial strains. The transformed biocontrol agents are active to inhibit the growth of the fungal pathogens.
Claims10
An isolated DNA molecule that encodes a polypeptide having the amino acid sequence set forth in SEQ ID NO:2, except that amino acid residue 182 may be either isoleucine or threonine.
A method for activating expression in a Pseudomonas host of at least one gene that is latent or natively expressed at low levels, comprising introducing into said host at least one copy of an E. coli uvr-23 gene.
An isolated DNA molecule comprising the .about.2 kb XhoI fragment in pCIB137.
