Abstract

The present invention provides a dialysis solution that contains amino acids for treating and/or preventing malnutrition in a peritoneal dialysis patient. The amino acid composition is optimized to minimize metabolic acidosis while normalizing amino acid plasma profiles.

Dependent claims

A method for providing nutrition to a peritoneal dialysis patient comprising the steps of administering at least once a day a peritoneal dialysis solution that includes:

##STR1## per 100 ml of solution, the ratio of phenylalanine/tyrosine ranging from about 1.3 to about 3.0, the ratio of basic amino acids/acidic amino acids ranging from about 1.0 to about 2.2.
