Abstract
A haloceramic material having integral, interpenetrating networks of haloelastomer, metal oxide, and optionally polyorganosiloxane forms highly advantageous seals such as gaskets, tapes, diaphragms, bearing, o-rings and the like. The haloceramer seals properties include a combination of thermal stability, chemical inertness and flexibility.
Claims22
A seal comprised of haloceramic material, said material comprising integral, interpenetrating networks of haloelastomer, metal oxide, and optionally polyorganosiloxane;
- said integral, interpenetrating networks of haloelastomer, metal oxide and optionally polyorganosiloxane comprising haloelastomer, and metal oxide polymer strands that are intertwined and crosslinked with each other, and optionally comprising polyorganosiloxane polymer strands intertwined and crosslinked with said haloelastomer and metal oxide polymer strands.
A method of sealing components, comprising placing a seal formed from a composition comprising integral, interpenetrating networks of haloelastomer, metal oxide, and optionally polyorganosiloxane between said components to be sealed;
- said integral, interpenetrating networks of haloelastomer, metal oxide and optionally polyorganosiloxane comprising haloelastomer and metal oxide polymer strands that are intertwined and crosslinked with each other, and optionally comprising polyorganosiloxane polymer strands intertwined and crosslinked with said haloelastomer and oxide polymer strands.
