Abstract
A method of treatment of vesicoureteral reflux, incontinence and other defects is described wherein bladder muscle cells are mixed with a liquid polymeric material to form a suspension. This is injected into the area of the defect, in an amount effective to yield a muscle area that provides the required control over the passage of urine or otherwise corrects the defect.
Claims19
A method for treating conditions which require the reconstruction of an anatomical area selected from the group consisting of the thoracic region, gastrointestinal tract, urinary tract, and reproductive tract comprising injecting into a patient in need of treatment thereof at a site in the anatomical area a suspension of smooth muscle cells in a biodegradable non-proteinaceous polymer solution that forms an ionically crosslinked hydrogel having the cells dispersed therein when injected in vivo, which becomes a non-migratory, volume stable tissue mass.
A method for obstructing a lumen or tube in a patient in need of treatment thereof comprising injecting into the lumen or tube in the patient a suspension of autologous muscle cells in a biodegradable polymer solution that forms a hydrogel having the cells dispersed therein which becomes a non-migratory, volume stable tissue mass.
