Abstract
A phosphor for low voltage applications including a plurality of light-emitting particles being made from a UV-excitable light-emitting phosphor, a diffusion barrier being formed as a film on the light-emitting particles, and a coating of an electron-excitable UV-emitting material being formed on the diffusion barrier. A method for making a low voltage phosphor including the steps of (i) providing a UV-excitable light-emitting phosphor (ii) forming a diffusion barrier on the UV-excitable light-emitting phosphor via sol-gel techniques (iii) forming, via sol-gel techniques, a film of an electron-excitable UV-emitting material on the diffusion barrier.
Claims4
An electron-excitable UV-emitting material having a general formula ZnO.Ga.sub.2 O.sub.3 :Gd having molar ratios of Ga.sub.2 O.sub.3 to ZnO to Gd within the ranges of 1:(0.5-4):(5.times.10.sup.-4 -0.3), respectively,
- whereby the electron-excitable UV-emitting material emits ultraviolet radiation upon electron exaltation.
An electron-excitable UV-emitting material having a general formula ZnO.Ga.sub.2 O.sub.3 :Cd,Gd having molar ratios of Ga.sub.2 O.sub.3 to ZnO to (Cd, Gd) within the ranges of 1:(0.5-4):(5.times.10.sup.-4 -0.3), respectively,
- whereby the electron-excitable UV-emitting material emits ultraviolet radiation upon electron exaltation.
A phosphor including a mixture of:
- an electron-excitable UV-emitting material having a general formula ZnO.Ga.sub.2 O.sub.3 :Gd having molar ratios of Ga.sub.2 O.sub.3 to ZnO to Gd within the ranges of 1:(0.5-4):(5.times.10.sup.-4 -0.3), respectively;
- and
- a UV-excitable light-emitting phosphor
- whereby the electron-excitable UV-emitting material emits UV radiation upon electron excitation, the UV radiation being received by the UV-excitable light-emitting phosphor to provide visible light having a predetermined color.
A phosphor including a mixture of:
- an electron-excitable UV-emitting material having a general formula ZnO.Ga.sub.2 O.sub.3 :Cd,Gd having molar ratios of Ga.sub.2 O.sub.3 to ZnO to (Cd, Gd) within the ranges of 1:(0.5-4):(5.times.10.sup.-4 -0.3), respectively;
- and
- a UV-excitable light-emitting phosphor
- whereby the electron-excitable UV-emitting material emits UV radiation upon electron excitation, the UV radiation being received by the UV-excitable light-emitting phosphor to provide light.
